The Berea City School District is a community of excellence, integrity, and purpose.

      Our Vision
The Berea City School District is a diverse community dedicated to inspiring lives of character, learning, leadership, and service.

    COMMUNITY

    • Spanning 21 square miles, the Berea City School District serves the educational needs of Berea, Brook Park, Middleburg Heights, and a portion of Olmsted Falls. The district is located in Cuyahoga County in northeastern Ohio, immediately southwest of the city of Cleveland. Currently, the district provides education to over 6,000 students in grades K through 12. Educational services for these grade levels are provided at 7 different buildings. The district has one high school (grades 9-12), one middle school (grades 5-8), four elementary schools (grades K-4), and a specialized school on the campus of Guidestone, as well as an extensive preschool program and extended childcare program. The Administration Building is located at 390 Fair Street in Berea, and the district also has a buildings and grounds/maintenance/warehouse facility and transportation center in Berea.
Berea City School District is committed to serving our community of learners. The aim of education is to not only help our students be successful within school, but to ensure that students succeed beyond school. Our learning environments cultivate culturally responsive schools that support and encourage our students, staff, parents, and community members to contribute their talents and be recognized for their efforts.

    CURRICULUM

    • The curriculum offers a wide range of electives and comprehensive courses of study in college preparatory, college accredited courses, vocational, visual arts, performing arts and physical education programs.
The curriculum of the Berea City School District is developed on a 6-year cycle based upon national, state, and professional organization standards. The curriculum writing process is a multi-year process which involves large teams of teachers representing all grade levels and areas of the district. These teams work for a period of two years, evaluating the current curriculum, and writing new courses of study and instructional guides. The materials selected to support the courses of study are thoroughly reviewed by staff members as well as parent and community members. The course of study and materials are presented to the Board of Education for adoption prior to being utilized in the school district. Great care is taken to align our student learning outcomes to state model curricula and the academic content standards. Following the adoption of the course of study and materials, an extensive staff training component is implemented so that all of our staff members are fully trained in the new courses of study, materials and assessment tools. As the new courses of study are being implemented, we have on-going K-12 articulation teams that meet periodically during each academic year to review the curriculum, make slight modifications and adjustments and ensure articulation among grade levels.
Our high school is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Through our partnership with Polaris Career Center, our students attend career-technical and STEM based programs at the center and on our campuses.
15 Advanced Placement (AP®) courses are offered: Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, English Literature & Composition, Language & Composition, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, US Government & Politics, European History, US History, Psychology, Spanish.
