The City of Middleburg Heights hosts the Final Tour of the Ohio Flags of Honor Traveling Memorial

Friday, May 28, 2021 to Monday, May 31, 2021

This event honors the men and women of Ohio who gave their lives in service to their country. Specifically, those Fallen in the Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and the War on Terrorism since September 11, 2001.
A Brief History of this Memorial
Gino and Lisa Zimmer lost their only child, Nicholaus, on May 30, 2004 to a mortar round in Kufa, Iraq. In Oct 2005, through a series of events involving the 3/25 Marines, Gino and Lisa created the Ohio Flags of Honor Memorial. Since then, Gino has travelled the state setting up the Memorial in any city/location willing to host him. The Memorial has grown to nearly 1,000 US, State & military service flags, and 302 of the flagpoles have a US flag and the name of one of Ohio’s Fallen Heroes that lost their life serving their country in the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan post 9/11/01.
These light weight PVC flagpoles are carried in and each name is read and placed one by one into the Memorial at the Opening Ceremony. It is quite an honor to carry in one of these heroes’ flagpoles, and some family members even volunteer to carry in their child’s flagpole.
